Apparently, in the UK there have been “milk pours” wherein animal rights activists dump out milk. Now, milk is obviously very bad, but so are milk pours.
For one, I don’t think this is effective activism — grand, splashy shows of activism that piss people off don’t seem effective when most people don’t like vegans very much. But even if you support the type of activism that pisses people off, this is a terrible idea that causes more factory farming.
Let’s think about the reason it’s bad to eat meat. The reason is not that the meat is transferred from a shelf to your mouth. Instead, the reason is that purchasing meat spurs more production of meat by sending a price signal. This causes more animals to be bred into the short, grisly lives that are rampant on factory farms.
But if you pour out milk, the same thing happens. While it’s not a price signal in this case, they still have an incentive to produce more milk to make up for the milk that was lost. This thus results in more animals being bred into existence and being tormented in the diary industry, exactly the thing being protested/
Milk Pours Are A Very, Very Poor Idea
Milk pours don't undo the exploitation and suffering that has occurred to produce it, and as was said, it encourages more of the same.
This vegan does not support that action.
Milk pours are a bad idea because all that milk could go to poor children whose families cannot afford milk. Wasting any food is a bad idea!!
