I recently wrote an article arguing that trans women are women and trans men are men. This article went viral on Twitter—my tweet about it has now been seen hundreds of thousands of times. Both Richard Hanania and Jesse Singal Tweeted favorably about it, but very large numbers of people took to the internet to get mad about it. Most of the replies were from people who did not bother following the argument but simply jumped to assume that I was a blue-haired stereotypical lib and called me names. While large numbers of people have expressed views on the article, few have bothered to raise any real criticisms.

who wrote a piece critical of my essay. I’m glad Volodzko wrote this piece as it contained actual objections rather than mere snark and namecalling. Unfortunately, every point he makes is wrong or confused in some way—at nearly every point failing to grasp what I’m saying or failing to consider obvious counterarguments. It also brims with wild, unearned confidence—as if the only reason one might disagree with him is because they’re a nutty postmodernist. I thus thought I’d explain what’s wrong with Volodzko’s essay as its a nice encapsulation of most of the totally question-begging ill-thought-out replies to my piece.Keep reading with a 7-day free trial
