Note: some of this article is a bit tongue-in-cheek. Don’t take the outrageous claims too seriously!
Most of my friends have IQs much higher than mine. They consistently scored more than 100 points higher than I did on the SAT. They’re all natively much better at math, chess, physics, and the like.
Despite this, I don’t feel like I’m consistently intellectually outmatched by my friends. When we argue about philosophy, it tends to be pretty even. Lest you think I’m really the dumb one in all my friend groups, one of my friends who is a top ~3,000 chess player in the world thinks I’m better at philosophy than he is (I’m not sure if that’s true—he’s very good). He also got a 1540 when he took a practice SAT, even though he lives in Europe and didn’t study for it at all!
This is not to say that there isn’t an important sense in which they’re a lot smarter than I am.
